To celebrate one hundred years of Bauhaus, in 2019, Wallace Sewell released a re-edition of Gunta Stölzl’s original ‘Prellerdecke’ blanket.

The Stölzl tote bag is a perfect size for a day handbag and roomy enough to carry your weekend essentials too. Sewn from our soft merino lambswool, with an inside zipped pocket. 

When Bauhaus relocated to Dessau in 1926, Stölzl, who was fundamental to the weaving department, designed a blanket for the ‘Prellerhaus’ student dormitories. The original design, which was a bold interaction of horizontal and vertical lines, and positive and negative spaces, was sadly lost and had to be heavily investigated to reproduce this design.

Working with Gunta Stölzl’s daughter, Monika Stadler, Wallace Sewell utilised archives and photographs of the blanket to develop a series of cushions, scarves and bags as close as possible to the original.
