Poet sofa by Finn Juhl for House of Finn Juhl.
Originally designed in 1941 as an experimental piece for Finn Juhl’s private home, the Poet sofa has become recognised as an iconic piece of Danish furniture. This compact two-seat sofa embodies the essential qualities of Danish Modern design; quality, comfort, and a wholly organic aesthetic.
Inspired by surrealist art, the Poet has a fluid, curved form that almost seems to embrace the sitter. Finn Juhl was strongly influenced by contemporary sculpture and the Poet sofa made its debut at the Cabinet Makers’ Guild exhibition beneath a sculptural relief by Hans Arp which echoes its organic curves.
